Root: The TTRPG Live on Kickstarter!

Just over a year ago, we played Root: A Woodland Game of Might & Right at Gen Con 2018. Now we couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that our tabletop roleplaying game adaptation of it is live on Kickstarter!

Designers Brendan Conway and Mark Diaz Truman have been hard at work turning the setting of the award-winning board game about warring factions of woodland creatures into a tabletop roleplaying game. Whether you’re familiar with the Root board game or are meeting these woodland creatures for the first time, the roleplaying game expands the Root universe and provides lots of story-telling opportunities for all players. It features new art from Kyle Ferrin, the illustrator of the original board game, and will be showcased in gorgeous full color. Mechanics focus on exciting adventure and escapades alongside asymmetric rules for the war across the Woodland. There are many adventures to be had for those who live on the fringes of the forests, of society—and of war.

Brendan says, “Playing the Root: A Game of Woodland Might & Right board game was like getting struck by a lightning bolt. It was involving, intriguing, exciting, interesting, and left us with the feeling of just wanting to play again. We wanted to see all the variations of the rules and the factions, and we wanted to unfurl the different stories of the war that befell the Woodland. I’m most excited that Root: The Tabletop Roleplaying Game gives still more access to those stories, but on an individual level. It’s awesome to play an adventuresome vagabond who can hold off a troop of Marquisate soldiers single-handedly, and it only gets better when you’re doing so to protect a clearing while it evacuates—the same clearing where your whole family lives. I can’t wait to help bring more of those stories to people.”

Earlier in the summer, we did an AMA on reddit about Root, which you can check out here to read what Mark and Brendan had to say:

We’re keeping the specific stretch goals a surprise to be revealed as they’re reached throughout the kickstarter, but we’re looking at new digital clearings, new maps, new dice, and new playbooks, along with some exciting major upgrades! Keep an eye out for them as they get released and go to the link above to back the Kickstarter today!
